Katherine Norris (Linda Purl) is shocked when a young man (Andrew Kraulis) shows up on her doorstep claiming to be Jamie, her long-lost son. She has not seen him since she had to give him up for adoption over twenty-five years ago.
Katherine's heart soars. She has a chance to make up for lost time. a chance to get to know and love the boy she always regretted giving away.
Jamie proves to be worthy of that love. He quickly ingratiates himself into Katherine's family, helping her and her husband, Greg (Perry King) manage their real estate investments.

We soon find out that Jamie's real name is Mitch, and that he's an ex-con with a sinister plan. In prison, he spent two years with Katherine's real son, Jamie, who told him all about the mother he's been trying to find for years and had recently located. Believing the Norris family to be very wealthy, Mitch has decided to impersonate Jamie in order to get his hands on every penny they've got.
But what Mitch has not counted on is the fact that the Norris family has fallen on hard times. When he discovers that they have no cash, but finds out that Greg has a million dollar life insurance policy, he quickly develops a different plan: he decides to murder Greg so that Katherine can collect . and he can score all the money.
Mitch carries out his deadly plan and leaves Katherine a widow. But Katherine soon starts to notice some strange things about "Jamie." After discretely investigating his background, she finally discovers that the real Jamie is in jail. Before she can call for help, she and her stepdaughter, Tara, are cornered by Mitch and taken hostage in their home.
While Mitch and his psycho girlfriend, Elizabeth, wait for the insurance check, Katherine and Tara try to find a way to escape. They need to act fast, realizing they will be killed as soon as the check arrives in the mail.
